KINDERGARTEN-LEAD TEACHER: ERIN HANNIGAN
I am so thrilled to teach kindergarten here at Brent Elementary!
Kindergarten is such a special year in students’ lives. It is a year of great growth and great discovery as students take their first steps as readers, writers, and mathematicians. I am passionate about giving students the tools they need to succeed while creating an environment that nurtures exploration, encourages endless questioning, and builds supportive relationships.
I came to Washington, D.C. in 2009 to attend American University. At AU, I received my undergraduate degree in Musical Theater. In 2016, I received my master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Trinity Washington University. While working towards my master’s degree, I had the privilege of working as an assistant in both prekindergarten and kindergarten here at Brent.
As a life-long performer, I am fascinated by the ways in which the arts can enrich all academic subjects. My ideal classroom is one where students find countless ways to engage with their learning—through singing, dancing, painting, building, and more!
Finally, I believe that all students and families bring unique stories and experiences to the classroom. Through an anti-bias educational model, I work to honor the stories and experiences of every child and to make the classroom a place where everyone is included and celebrated!
When I am not thinking of new ways to engage and excite my learners, you can find me hiking, reading a great book, or cheering on my favorite Boston teams, the Patriots and the Red Sox!
