The following websites are highly recommended as supplemental resources for home:
Language Arts
- Read, Write, Think.org: This website is a great resource for language arts graphic organizers and activity ideas for home. Take a moment to check out the fantastic podcasts available.
- Scholastic Book Wizard: Here’s where you can determine whether a book is “just right” for your child. Simply make sure the “Guided Reading” option is clicked, then type in the title of your child’s book. The corresponding level will show up on the next page.
- Booksource.com: Not only can you purchase great titles at this site, all texts are organized by either title, reading level, or genre, to allow you to explore a range of possible book options. Recommended Common Core texts are also available on this site.
- Leveled Recommended Reading List: This suggested book list is organized by level so that you can easily identify texts that are the appropriate level of challenge. This list is by no means comprehensive, so we also recommend checking out Booksource.com for additional book suggestions.
Math
- IXL.com: All students will be assigned an IXL login that they will be able to use anywhere. IXL is an excellent resource for practicing a range of math skills and allows students to work at their own pace. You can use IXL to revisit challenging skills from last year’s math curriculum or to move ahead in certain skills.
- XTRAMath.org: This is another math website that Brent subscribes to. It can be used at home to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Like IXL, students will need their login information to use the website outside of school.
Common Core/PARCC Resources
- PARCC Samples: This website provides helpful information about the type of content and questions students might encounter on the online PARCC exam. Be sure to click “4th Grade” on the left side of the screen for either Mathematics or ELA/Literacy.
