The Brent State of the School Presentation will be part of Wednesday’s PTA meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. Intended to reflect our past, present and future, this presentation will give the Brent Community an overview of Brent’s work over the first half of the academic year, describe future initiatives as well as look to strategic planning for the next couple of years. There will also be an extended question and answer session. As always, free childcare (including pizza) will be provided. As a reminder, the meeting will be streamed live via Facebook Live on Brent’s Facebook page so you can participate and stay informed even if you cannot be there in person. The meetings are also archived on Brent’s FB page so you can stay up to date on the PTA events on your schedule. ASL interpreters will be provided for this meeting. Play rehearsals have begun for Dear Edwina! Student are learning choreography, constructing sets and memorizing the script. Over 80 students are participating this year. Winter weather is causing Brent’s lost and found to overflow! Please stop by the lost and found outside the library and retrieve any lost coats, jackets, sweaters and lunch boxes. Items not retrieved by Friday, September 26 will be donated to Goodwill.
End of year donations moved us past our budgeted goal! Thank you to the 180 Families who gave $115,141 to support Brent PTA. Your support makes a difference every day in the life of our students.
Last week, second grade poets found inspiration and practiced seeing the world through “poet’s glasses” at the Renwick Gallery. While at the museum, students searched for details in works of art that others may miss. After observing a piece, small groups worked together to brainstorm verbs, adjectives and emotions that they later combined to create shared poems. Through interactive discussions, our guides also helped students learn how the artist’s choice of materials helps to convey their message. After returning to school, students continued to experiment with line breaks to refine these poems, prior to displaying them on the bulletin board outside the second grade classrooms. Please come see what we’ve created!
The Brent Diversity Committee thanks the families who braved the cold to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. The peace walk and parade were great celebrations of unity. Our next meeting is January 31 at 6:30. We will be discussing Black History Month festivities. All are welcome. Please join us.
Brent Bears are excited to participate in their second Club Day of the year! The day will begin with an all-school morning meeting in the multi-purpose room led by the fabulous second grade team. Later, from 10:05-10:50 all Brent children and staff will participate in a wide variety of clubs based on their personal interests. This year, we have 41 different clubs including art, water works, and basketball, architecture, theater, sewing, scrapbooking, Hogwarts, and many more.
