I know these are difficult and uncertain times we are facing right now. Due to these circumstances, I would love to lift all of our spirits through the performing arts. This time of year is usually when I am getting ready for numerous concerts and talent show auditions. The students are buzzing with excitement as they practice their performances and talents before school, after school, and even during lunch.
This year, we are going to do something that has never been done before. We are going to have a Virtual Talent Show! There will be no auditions this year, and every video that is sent to me will be compiled into one large video that will be emailed to the community. If there are a large number of videos being sent, I may end up doing a live stream of the video on Zoom as a virtual concert for the community.
I don’t want to put the usual restrictions on these videos, so as long as the video is school appropriate it will be aired. I only ask that your videos do not exceed 2 minutes. Also, I do reserve the right to hold back any videos that are not deemed as school appropriate as the whole point of this Virtual Talent Show is to uplift and spread happiness, smiles and cheer.
Ideas for talents can include singing, playing an instrument, dancing, reciting poetry, hula hooping, or juggling. As a way of encouraging our whole Brent community to engage with this talent show I would love to encourage you to include your whole family (anyone in your house)! You can have just the student/students perform or the whole family perform. The sky is the limit!
The deadline to submit videos is May 27, 2020. Videos can be sent to Joshua.krohn@k12.dc.gov. The easiest way is to upload your videos either to YouTube as a private video or by placing them in a DropBox folder. Depending on the size of the video they can even be emailed as an attachment.
I will keep all of you posted as I start to receive videos of whether or not this talent show will be streamed as a virtual concert or emailed to the community. Also, if you want to participate, but are stuck on the technology of it, please let me know and I would be happy to either walk you through it, or to find the answer!
My hope with this project is that we connect, get to see each other even if only through videos, laugh and smile a whole lot. Please let me know if you have any questions. I so look forward to seeing all of your amazing videos and talent!
Love always,
Mr. Krohn
