The Winter Bird Count organized by the Brent science teacher Mike Mangiaracina is back on again this year and is going to be held the morning of Saturday, January 7. There is a new and exciting twist this year too! The Bird Count is expanding to be open to all kids in Ward 6, and different schools around the ward will take turns hosting. This year J.O. Wilson Elementary School (on the other side of Capitol Hill at 660 K St NE) will be hosting.
Given the Brent community's extensive experience with this event, we would really appreciate help from Brent parents to staff the event this year. Please sign up for a short shift helping out. As we move into the new calendar year Brent is asking for your attention and assistance in ensuring that your student arrives on time! Arriving on time:
-Provides our teachers with the opportunity to work with our students without interruption. -Supports improved social interactions in morning meetings -Supports your child’s academic engagement and success by preventing them from falling behind and losing confidence in their academic abilities. Brent is committed to this effort. We have developed action steps to make this a priority. This year, Winter Break begins on Thursday, December 22. Please note, if your student is absent due to family travel that week, those absences are unexcused. Please alert Denise Diggs at denise. diggs@dc.gov if your student will be out any day Monday, December 19 through Wednesday, December 21. Please note: Brent’s Front Office will be open over the break from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. However, Brent will be closed on Monday, December 26 and Monday, January 2.
On behalf of the Brent Christmas Tree and Holiday sale Committee, I want to thank the Brent community for all your amazing support! While we are still crunching numbers, we are predicting a record breaking year in profits for the Brent PTA to use to enrich the education of Brent students. We could not have had this success without the tireless work of the over 75 volunteers we had working to set up the sale, throughout the weekend, and clean up! Not to mention the amazing support of the community who came out and bought trees and holiday decor! What a fantastic community we have! We also want to thank Bookstore Movers and Capitol Hill BID for their support! With much appreciation, Josh Drobnyk, John Fleming, and Alyson Lewis
