Nominations due tonight for principal selection panel (8 pm May 19)

5/19/2017

A selection process is under way to replace outgoing principal Peter Young. Three parents (and one alternate) will be selected to serve on the selection panel. Nominations for parent/guardian/caretaker are due by 8pm tonight, May 19th. Voting will take place on Monday and Tuesday.  You can nominate yourself if you'd like.   Nominating someone - or yourself - is easy! All you have to do is write a brief email that provides the nominees name and the grades of their children (and anticipated incoming Brent students). Then send the email to brentprincipal2017@gmail.com.

More details below.

That’s it!

(If you would like to you can also provide an optional sentence or two about why you think the person would be good on the panel.)

Four nominees will be selected to sit on the selection panel - three of them will be panelists and one will be an alternate in case one of the other three cannot make the interviews.

Monday and Tuesday the slate of nominees will be voted upon by the entire parent body at. Brent.

Please read the attached flyers for more detailed information on the principal selection process and don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

For convenience, I’ve copied and pasted below the pertinent sections of the attached memos.

Sincerely,
Peter Young

2.              NOMINATIONS

Beginning May 16th, and concluding Friday, May 19th at 8 p.m., nominations will be accepted for a parent/guardian/caretaker to serve on the principal selection process. Three parent representatives and one parent alternative will be selected (more detail on the full panel is below).

To nominate someone – or yourself -- please send an email to brentprincipal2017@gmail.com with the following information:

  • NAME of person being nominated (you can nominate yourself too).
  • NAME / GRADES OF NOMINEES’ CHILDREN at BRENT, FUTURE BRENT ATTENDEES (e.g., children who would attend Brent when they are old enough)
  • OPTIONAL: A BRIEF STATEMENT ABOUT WHY THE PERSON SHOULD SERVE ON THE PANEL. Please no more than two or three sentences.

Nominations must be received by 8 p.m. Friday night. Statements will be shared via the Brent Neighbors listserve by Sunday and in the front office.

3.              VOTING

Once nominees have been received, their names and accompanying information will be combined into a ballot. From Monday, May 22 through Tuesday, May 23, voting will take place.  Voting will take place from 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. on May 22 and 23. If anyone needs another time slot in which to vote just contact us and we can arrange something that works.

Per other school elections, voters will be checked off a master school list once they have submitted their ballot.

4.              SELECTING PARENT REPS

Once voting is concluded, ballots are counted. The top three vote-getters will become the parent representative on the ballot; the fourth-highest vote-getter will become an alternate.

Voting concludes Tuesday at 6 p.m. and winners will be announced in the morning.

5.              RESPONSIBILITIES OF BEING A PARENT REP

Parent representatives on will serve on a 14-member panel (more details below). They will be expected to attend several meetings that will begin next week and last until the principal selection process is over. In addition, the parent reps will be expected to help design a survey and/or other outreach process to solicit feedback from other Brent parents. Finally, parent reps will need to attend the candidate selection interviews, which are expected to take half a day or longer. We do not yet know the timing of those interviews but were told to anticipate they will be either the last week in May or the first week in June.

Please recognize that if you choose to become a parent rep you must commit to the time and task responsibilities outlined above.
