3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Brent will participate in PARCC testing during the first two weeks of May. PARCC is the statewide assessment that is used to measure student-, school-, and system-level progress. 4th and 5th graders test first, beginning on Monday, May 1st and ending Friday, May 5th. 3rd graders test second, beginning Monday, May 8th and ending Friday, May 12th. (Note: Students who test in small groups may have slightly different schedules.) Testing takes place in the morning and is generally concluded by lunchtime each day. We are asking that 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families support this process in two main ways: First, please help your child to feel calm and well-rested by making sure that they have had plenty of sleep. Second, please be sure to arrive at school on time. Students who arrive after administration has begun will not be permitted to join their classes and will have to make up their tests. Since testing starts right away in the morning, it is best that everyone be present at the start of the day. Questions can be directed to Sara Ewbank, Test Coordinator, at sara. ewbank@dc.gov.
