THIRD GRADE-TERM TEACHER: JORDAN SIMON
Mrs. Simon is thrilled to be joining the Brent community this year as part of the third grade team!
Originally from a small town in Connecticut, Mrs. Simon moved to Washington, D.C. as an undergraduate student and never left. She and her family live on Capitol Hill and we love the neighborhood! Mrs. Simon and her husband have two sons, Jacob (6) and Thomas (4).
Teaching is second career for her. After several years in the public relations industry, she fell in love with teaching when volunteering as a tutor in an afterschool program here in D.C. She quickly realized that the few hours each week she was spending with students, were the best hours of her week. Mrs. Simon decided to pursue a career in education.
In 2012, she earned a Masters in Elementary Education from George Washington University. This comprehensive masters program provided her with a solid background in educational theory, child development and, most importantly, lots of hands-on classroom experience. During this program Mrs. Simon held student-teaching positions at Somerset Elementary School in Montgomery County, MD and Lafayette Elementary School in Washington, D.C.
After finishing her degree, Mrs. Simon took some time to be home with her two young children. However, to remain connecting to the classroom she’s been regularly volunteering and substituting within DCPS for the past few years. Most recently, Mrs. Simon spent four months teaching fourth grade at Janney Elementary School in D.C.
