THIRD GRADE-LEAD TEACHER: KELLY MASCHARI
About
This is my fourth year as a third grade teacher at Brent, and my ninth year teaching. I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to teach a new group of students this year! Every year has been exciting and memorable, as I have been lucky to teach such wonderful kids. I grew up in Sandusky, Ohio, lived in Hong Kong for two years, and currently live in Capitol Hill with my husband, Nick. My parents and older brothers live in Florida and Ohio. I have two beautiful nieces, Olivia and Charlotte, and one adventurous nephew, Cole. Nick and I are excited to be expecting the new addition of our son at the end of September. Here’s a bit more about my professional background. I joined Brent two years ago from Hyde-Addison in Georgetown, where I was a 2nd grade teacher and before that a STEM specialist. Prior to joining DCPS, I taught at Community Academy Public Schools and was a Houston Corp member with Teach for America. I’m also a huge DC sports fan! I ran cross-country, track, basketball, and swimming in high school and ran cross-country in college. I also love traveling and visiting countries all around the world-21 so far! In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of bravery, empathy, active, and responsible (BEAR)! I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork and togetherness. I value cooperation and collaboration both in my classroom and as I work with my peers. I believe that all great things can happen when we work together to grow ourselves! I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of our scholars this year! Please feel free to reach out to me at: mascharikelly@gmail.com Looking forward to one of the best years yet!
