RECORDER KARATE TRACK BOOKS

  • Recorder Karate Tracks Book 1
  • Recorder Karate Tracks Book 2
  • Recorder Karate Tracks Book 3
<
>
Here are the accompaniment tracks that are used in “Recorder Karate” for 3rd-5th grade. Please encourage your child to use these tracks in helping with steady beat, rhythm, and basic recorder technique (i.e. using soft, warm air in the recorder, covering the correct holes, using the left hand on top of the recorder).  If you are in need of another copy of Recorder Karate Book 1 please click here
White Belt – Hot Cross Buns (uses B, A, G;  make sure the half notes get two beats)
Picture
Yellow Belt – Gently Sleep (uses B, A, G; watch the half notes and MM. 4 and 8)
Picture
Orange Belt – Merrily We Roll Along (uses B, A,G; half notes and watch the last two measures)
Picture
Green Belt – It’s Raining (uses A, G, E; first song with eighth notes – think the word “pumpkin” on the eighth notes to help with rhythm; remember to use soft air on the low E)
Picture
Purple Belt – Old MacDonald Had A Farm (uses B, A, G, E, D;  REALLY soft air on the low D; otherwise it will not come out; think the word “pumpkin” on the eighth notes to help with rhythm in the third line)
Picture
Blue Belt – When The Saints Go Marching In (uses D, C, B, A, G; first song with ties, dotted half notes, and HIGH C and D; make sure the ties are fully played and the dotted half notes get 3 beats)
Picture
Red Belt – Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (uses B, A, G, F#, E, D; first song with F# – remember the F# uses the right-hand middle and ring fingers; SOFT AIR throughout the whole piece)
Picture
Brown Belt – Amazing Grace (uses D, B, A, G, E, D; combines ties, eighth notes, quarter notes, dotted quarter notes, half notes, dotted half notes, soft-air low notes, and high notes; HARDEST BELT IN THE FIRST BOOK!  Good luck!  :D)
Picture
Black Belt – Ode To Joy (uses D, C, B, A, G, D; watch the third line with the eighth notes and measures 12-13 with the low D and the tied B)
Picture
Pink Belt - Morning–Peer Gynt Suite (Watch the low F’s and the dotted-half note in measures 8 and 16)
Picture
Lime Belt - Camptown Races (Watch ALL of the low notes (especially low C) as well as the dotted quarter notes on the third line and the dotted half notes)
Picture
Maroon Belt - The Wayfaring Stranger (VERY HARD in terms of rhythm (2nd hardest piece rhythmically in Book 2).   Watch the ties and the dotted quarter notes throughout the piece)
Picture
Grey Belt - Wade In The Water (EXTREMELY HARD in terms of rhythm (hardest piece rhythmically in Book 2.  Watch the Ab in the last line of the piece as well as the ties with one-half note and one eighth-note) [2.5 beats]
Picture
Gold Belt - America The Beautiful (Beautiful melody with an introduction to HIGH E and C#.  Remember to uncover the thumb and first finger on the left hand to play the HIGH E.  Also watch out for the low F’s )[NOT F#]
Picture
Dark Blue Belt - What Shall We Do (Introduction to HIGH F#, G, and A as well as Irish melodies (REALLY FUN AND FAST TO PLAY! Watch the tempo and make sure it doesn’t get too out-of-hand.  Blow a little harder on the HIGH A to make it play.  Watch out for the repeat at the end.)
Picture
Black Belt LEVEL II - Star Spangled Banner (Dotted eighth/sixteenth combinations, low C’s, HIGH E, F, and G, and eighth notes make this a very hard piece to play perfectly!  Good luck!)
Picture
Black Belt LEVEL III - Blackthorn Stick (Introduction to an Irish melody in 6/8 time.  The tempo is quick, there are HIGH A’s, G’s, F#’s, and E’s, low notes, and there MUST be a steady beat WITHOUT HESITATION in the triplets that are played.  2nd hardest piece with notes and rhythm make this a great challenge!)
Picture
Grandmaster Belt - The Sailors Hornpipe (This piece has the largest range of notes (low D to HIGH B) and is easily the HARDEST piece in Book 2!  This piece is also a fun introduction to a traditional Irish Hornpipe as well as to sixteenth notes.  Practice this piece SLOW at first and gradually speed up.  If you’ve made it this far CONGRATS!!)
Picture
Here you find the performance tracks for Recorder Karate Book 3.  The tracks are at full speed and they are a blast to play!  I would suggest practicing these tracks slowly before attempting them at full speed.  These songs are meant to take a good amount of practice before being able to play them perfectly.  Good luck!
The Shan Van Vocht Hornpipe (watch your rhythm!  It has a similar rhythm to parts of The Star Spangled Banner.  Also watch your repeat signs in the 2nd and 4th line.  This is a great first piece!)
Picture
Drummond Castle (It’s in 6/8 just like The Blackthorn Stick.  This piece adds grace notes that must be played quickly or the steady beat is lost.  Watch your repeat signs in the middle of the piece)
Picture
Lord Gordon’s Reel (watch the triplets and the eighth notes.  This is one of the easier pieces in the book and also makes a great first piece to practice!)
Picture
Glenburnie Rant (Easiest piece with grace notes.  Only one repeat sign which makes this a shorter song. )
Picture
The Heather Breeze Reel (almost ALL eighth notes so keep your steady beat!  No rests in the piece makes breathing a challenge.  I suggest breathing right after the quarter note in the 3rd line.  Watch the repeat at the end)
Picture
The Flannel Jacket Reel (A combination of eighth notes and triplets can make this slightly challenging.  Watch your two sets of repeat signs and your key signature)
Picture
Allegro (One of the hardest pieces in the book.  Watch your Bb’s and Eb’s as well as your repeat sign)
Picture
The Belfast Hornpipe (A favorite of mine!  This piece flies at it’s fastest!  The combination of dotted eighth/sixteenth notes, triplets, slurs, and repeats makes this a long song at a slower tempo.  Watch the THREE sets of repeat signs)
Picture
Ganglat Fran Mockfjard (This is the longest piece in the book as well as one of the slower pieces.  Watch out for the 1st and 2nd endings in the middle and the end of the piece.  Also watch out for the slurs, grace notes, and the triplets)
