ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, LITERACY: SARA EWBANK
About
Ms. Ewbank is the Assistant Principal of Literacy at Brent. Ms. Ewbank stared her teaching career in North Carolina, and then moved to the Democratic Republic of Congo in order to live and teach at The American School of Kinshasa, the most highly-regarded Anglophone school in that country. During the three years she lived in Africa, she also earned her first master’s degree in elementary education. In 2007, she returned to the states to attend Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education and earned her second master’s degree in Education Policy and Management. She says, “While at Harvard, I was able to meet and study under the same authors whose articles and books had influenced me as a beginning teacher. I had always believed in the transformative power of education, but it was during that year that I learned to recognize and articulate the mechanisms for change in our educational system.” In 2009, Ms. Ewbank joined the staff of Brent Elementary as the instructional coach, a position she happily held for seven years before becoming the Assistant Principal of Literacy this year. |
