FOURTH GRADE-LEAD TEACHER: TASHI SCREEN
Fourth grade is an extremely critical year in elementary school, and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with your children during this important time. I will be joining the class this week, alongside Ms. Ewbank, in order to build relationships with your children and observe where they are in the curriculum. We will both work diligently to ensure a smooth transition for everyone.
I have worked at Brent Elementary for almost a year now. Last fall, I served as the long-term substitute for Ms. Yokum’s 1st grade for six weeks. I then transitioned to 4th grade and served as the long-term substitute for Mrs. Perschke from October to April. During that time, I taught the 4th grade Readers and Writers Workshop curriculum, as well as Investigations Math. After Mrs. Perschke’s return, I continued to work with 3rd through 5th graders through the end of the school year. I collaborated closely with Ms. Ewbank, Mrs. Werstuik, and Ms. Wilson to offer intervention and classroom support. I was offered a position as a Teaching Partner, and have worked in that capacity this fall, supporting intervention work and literacy assessments alongside Ms. Ewbank and Ms. Cruz.
Before coming to Brent, I taught and educated students for nine years throughout Central Virginia. I obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Teaching is a journey, and my greatest reward is seeing my students flourish and grow throughout the school year. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. We enjoy traveling the world and spending time with our extended family.
I look forward to meeting you, and to helping your children achieve their academic learning goals. I truly feel that we are a “TEAM” and working Together Everyone Achieves More when supporting a classroom community conducive to learning. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at Tashi.Screen@dc.gov. I am excited to spend this time with you and your children.
