During SY26–27, Brent's school day runs from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm. Doors open at 8:35 am so students can collect breakfast and be ready for morning meeting. Students arriving after 8:44 am should check in with their caregiver at the security desk.

If your child will be absent, email the front office and classroom teacher with the student's name, date, and reason.

For an early dismissal, arrive before 2:45 p.m. and sign your child out at the security desk.

For a planned early dismissal or a question about pickup, contact the main office.

Brent students benefit from strong, consistent attendance: it supports continuity of learning, connected classroom communities, academic progress, and teacher planning. Students should stay home when they are ill, but families should try to align discretionary travel and other absences with holidays and non-instructional days.

To report an absence:

• Email your child's teacher and the main office.
• Include the student's name, the date, and the reason.
• For safety, the school will call home when a student is absent and the school has not received notice.

Brent's attendance team begins intervention after three unexcused absences or repeated late arrivals:

• Three cumulative partial or full-day unexcused absences: families receive an absence letter.
• Four cumulative absences: a teacher calls home.
• Five full-day unexcused absences: the school sends another letter and holds a Student Attendance Conference.

Additional DCPS and CFSA interventions apply at higher thresholds. Contact the front office if your family needs help with attendance.

Students may wear khaki, green or white bottoms, jumpers or dresses, with white or green tops. Any shade of green is allowed, though hunter green is the school color and most families choose it. School merchandise of any year counts as uniform. Closed-toe shoes are encouraged every day and required on PE days.

The school keeps spare uniforms on site for anyone who forgets one or needs to change during the day.

Families can also look for quarterly recycled-uniform exchanges. The PTA shares Brent merchandise and uniform-swap details with families; past and present Brent merchandise may be worn as uniform.

ECE families should send an extra change of clothes in a labeled plastic bag for bathroom accidents. Elastic-waist pants without buttons, snaps or belts, and Velcro or zip shoes rather than laces, let the youngest students manage on their own.

Aramark runs food service at Brent. Families can use the breakfast and lunch menus and the LINQ Connect parent portal FAQs for current information.

Meal details:

• Lunch costs $3.00. Pay through the LINQ Connect meal application, then add your student using their ID number, which the front office can provide.
• Breakfast is free for every student. Students who want breakfast should arrive by 8:35 a.m. to collect it and still take full part in morning meetings.
• Meal accounts work like debit accounts. The account holder receives an email when the balance runs low, and no student is refused lunch because an account is negative.
• Families who qualify for free or reduced-price meals can submit a FARM application to the main office or contact the front office.

Lunch is served in classrooms. If your child brings lunch from home, pack any utensils they need; lunches cannot be refrigerated or microwaved. Brent is a nut-free school, so please do not pack nuts or nut-containing products. Fresh fruit, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains are encouraged.

Allergy information:

• Tell the front office and your child's classroom teacher about any food allergy.
• DCPS meals contain no pork, peanuts, or tree nuts. Every meal has a vegetarian option, which needs no paperwork.
• For an allergy or medical condition that needs further accommodation, send a Medical Dietary Accommodations form to dietary.forms@k12.dc.gov. You do not need to refile it each school year.

Brent follows the DCPS student cell phone policy and maintains a cell-phone-free school day. Students must keep phones and other personal electronic devices turned off, offline, and stored away during instruction and while riding school transportation.

Families should use the bus tracker or contact Brent adults for transportation updates rather than calling or texting students during the ride. In an emergency or change in operating status, the school will communicate through its official family messaging channels. The full DCPS cell phone policy has additional details.

If a staff member sees a student using a personal device, the device may be confiscated and securely stored in the front office for parent or guardian retrieval. In a school emergency, families receive official updates through the school’s mail system and DCPS’s Finalsite messaging platform. Students may use school-issued devices for learning.

Label coats, water bottles, lunch containers, and uniform pieces with your child's name. Ask the front office where the current Meyer lost-and-found collection is located. Unclaimed items are periodically donated.

Brent provides bus transportation during the Meyer swing-space years. Families receive their student's route and stop information by email; Brent does not publish bus schedules or student rosters on the website. Students receive bus assignments and backpack tags before school begins.

Transportation details:

• Brent operates nine daily yellow bus routes between the Brent Bus Depot at X Park (Providence Park), 464 2nd Street SE, and Brent@Meyer.
• Families may select different afternoon transportation plans for each day of the week through the trimester transportation survey.
• Families use the survey each trimester to confirm or update dismissal plans and help the school build accurate bus rosters.
• Students should arrive at the depot at least 10 minutes before their scheduled departure because buses cannot wait for late arrivals.

Transportation updates, schedules, and reminders are shared by email and the Brent website. The Brent Bus Depot is also a community space where students begin and end the day with familiar faces; the school expects to continue community traditions such as X-Park Fun Fridays.

Watch the school calendar for transportation survey deadlines and the date schedules are released. If you need help with a dismissal change on a particular day, contact the front office as early as possible.

If your student rides a Brent afternoon bus, the Brent Bus app can notify you when the bus leaves school and show its estimated arrival time at X Park. The app uses information from the FleetPaths bus trackers.

Sign in using the FleetPaths email and password sent in the email titled “Brent K12 Parent Signup” from no-reply@fleetpaths.com. If you have trouble signing in, use Forgot Password on FleetPaths.

iPhone: Download Brent Bus from the App Store.

Android: Email vikas.sood@gmail.com with the Google email address used in the Play Store. Vikas will add it to the download list and send the Google Play link. This must be the Google account used in the Play Store, which may be different from your FleetPaths login email.

Capitol Language Services (CLS) provides before care, aftercare, Spanish classes, enrichment, and camps at Brent@Meyer. Current schedules and prices are:

• Before care: Monday–Friday, 7:30–8:30 a.m.; $173 per month or $210 for a package of 10 drop-in days.
• Aftercare: Monday–Friday, 3:15–6 p.m.; monthly tuition is $410 for five days per week, $368 for four days, $306 for three days, or $224 for two days.
• Spanish classes: Mondays and Wednesdays; $231 per month for twice-weekly classes.
• Enrichment: Pricing is listed by CLS on its flyer and website.

CLS may offer camps on professional-development and parent-conference days from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. when at least 18 students enroll; camps may be cancelled if the minimum is not reached.

CLS enrollment is handled through Procare. Families with an existing Procare account can select and pay for their programming there; families without an account should use the Brent Elementary enrollment link provided by CLS and wait for approval before selecting programs. CLS requires a non-refundable deposit, which can be applied as a credit during the current school year and covers the final month of tuition in June 2027. Monthly tuition is paid through Procare Tuition Express and is due between the 5th and 10th of each month.

CLS uses enrollment periods for each trimester. New enrollments, schedule changes, and withdrawals must be made during the applicable provider enrollment window; those windows are separate from the school calendar. Capitol Kicks is separate from CLS and has its own enrollment process. Review Capitol Kicks or email capitolkicks.dh@gmail.com for current registration, capacity, schedules, and fees.

Brent does not administer provider enrollment. The school calendar is the source for school closures and early-dismissal dates, while CLS and Capitol Kicks may have separate pickup rules, so confirm those rules with the provider before registering.
