Enrollment
If Brent is your in-boundary school and your child is entering K–5, enrollment is guaranteed. Everyone else goes through the DCPS lottery.
Who goes through the lottery
- All new early childhood education (pre-kindergarten) students, both in-boundary and out-of-boundary.
- New, out-of-boundary K–5th grade students.
Your in-boundary school is based on your home address. Check your address with DCPS.

Reenrollment
Every new and returning Brent student completes enrollment paperwork each year. DCPS enrollment typically runs from late March through April; DCPS and Brent's front office share current deadlines and instructions.
Sign in to the ASPEN family portal
Complete enrollment in ASPEN. Returning families should check access early; new families need an account. For access or password help, contact the Brent front office or email enroll@k12.dc.gov. Paper forms are available from DCPS and may be returned to the front office.
Prove residency
All students must provide proof of residency as part of the application. The accepted-documents form is below. Documents upload in many formats as part of the online application. The caregiver on the proof of residency documents must be the same caregiver who submits the application.
Prove age, if new to DCPS
Students new to DCPS must also submit one proof of age document — a birth certificate, hospital records, previous school records, passport, or baptismal certificate.
File health forms before the year starts
Prior to the start of the school year, all students must submit a Universal Health Certificate — including a record of required immunizations — and an Oral Health Assessment. These can be included as part of the enrollment application.
